a bell will ring inside your head
lunchtime today, beside the belfry on A street (it could in fact be the actual belfry, i had no interest in finding out, as i needed the loo, there you go. Looks like a belfry. Could do with a bat or two). and so, mccain (famous for oven chips) will be the republican nominee for pres'dent, but still the democratic race goes on, obama or hillary, last name versus first name. the colours? greys, touch of blue, with just a little green, as joni mitchell might say. |

illustration friday: "leap"
I decided to finally do a picture for illustration friday, whose topic this week is "Leap". Suicide Bridge leapt to mind. I used to live yards away from this sad and infamous bridge, on Hornsey Lane in north London. I'm told the same fact is true for the golden gate bridge. Drawing-wise, i don't know what i was thinking with that green but it was intentional at the time. I miss this view, reminds me of getting the 134 bus down from Finchley, or walking home across the bridge desperately needing the loo, or my dad telling me all about it when we'd cross over it when i was a kid. |

because my love for you will break my heart in two
What I didn't say, and what has happened, is that this has also become a proud-tree-hugging blog. Or tree drawing, and not proud. What is pride anyway? People give it too much credit, like patriotism. It comes before The Fall, maybe it's a DJ's set-list, strange having U2 before Mark E Smith but there you go. This pride of trees (wrong collective noun) I think comes after the Fall, as all the leaves have gone. But it goes before the Spring, and wow spring is coming in thick and fast. All these little Davis trees are covered in blossom where days ago they were barren and quite moody to draw. Now, let's see if the 20six blog system goes down again, making this blog and so many others temporarily invisible..? |

future artist sleeps, and burps
I said this blog would probably become a proud-dad sketchblog, and here are more attempts at drawing baby. The one on the right is the first attempt with eyes open - cheating, from a photo - but the eyes are a bit too big. you can't tell how blue they are, well they're dark grey blue in reality. |

it's enough to make your heart go whoo-oo-oo-ooh
I wanted to post this drawing on Sunday, after my beloved (and oft belittled) team finally won a trophy (9 years since we last won the same cup)! I was celebrating with my son Lucky Luke (his month-old birthday too) whose favourite song is "Lukey's Going To Wembley", and wanted to blog, but for some reason 20six has been going AWOL, and forcing me yet again to consider the long-expected move (I've stuck around because i'm sentimental - or is it slightly mental - and reluctant to drop the uk bit, like it anchors me to britain or something). Sadly, I missed the actual game - never saw any of it. It was all played out on tv screens on a different planet, at a time before I wake up anyway, and I had to get up and watch the scores roll in on the bbc website. But it meant I got a whole day to celebrate (and change nappies). And Wembley! The new Wembley! I'm from fairly near Wembley, and remember the arch being hoisted up. I wish I could've been there. I'll take my son there one day. |

to wash the black mark clean, and to thaw the frost of years
Another tree, UC Davis, near the library. If you are quick you may still catch it like this, but buds started appearing today everywhere, and the beautiful fleshless winter is going to very soon give way to freshly painted spring. In other news: Kosovo, oh we thought that had gone away didn't we, well it's back and really biting everyone in the bum. Russia's none too pleased. Hey remember last time, when we 'accidentally' blew up the chinese embassy in Belgrade? Never mind the Balkans. Then there is the satellite thing, shooting that momma out the sky. Russia and China are none too pleased, America's weaponification of space. And the global economy! We're in recession, which means we won't be able to buy so much stuff from China, they won't be happy about that. World's feeling a little shakier today. There will always be trees. Oh, except if we chop them all down. |

i think i'm in heaven, I must be in heaven, with you
Two more from You See, Davis. Nineteen (below) and Twenty (above) respectively. Of a possible 24, when the series will very likely end. I might do prequels after that, or go in with photoshop and digitally alter the originals, take out this tree or that tree, put in the extra window that the original budget and technology of the day could not allow for, insert jabba the hutt by that one of the phonebox. Above: don't you feel like that, you know, life is pretty bloody good, it could be a whole lot worse if you had gone down that leg of the trousers of time instead of this one? Yeah. Below: I found a nice quiet spot during lunchtime, away from la foule, whereas the words were an observation of someone i saw on the bus smiling at an invisible person through the window (or maybe it was her reflection? ) in the cold morning sunshine. |

animationals
A few years ago (2005), on a computer far far away (in hornsey lane), i created several extremely short animated gifs based on revenge of the sith (before it came out) using photoshop and image-ready and a simplistic cartoon technique. It was my first foray into animation since school, and my last, and I always intended to continue and improve, but alas did not. I've suddenly become inspired again, and hope to find some way to create some more, this time with my own stories, my own characters. But in the meantime, I've made a page on this blog where you can see all thirteen of my starwarsian animationals. |
