About thirty seconds ago I glanced upon the headline on the bbc website that said the 'crocodile hunter' (an obvious misnomer for someone who was promarily interested in croc conservation) had been killed! Steve Irwin, who has braved crocs, snakes, spiders, scorpions, even He was diving, apparently, and may have been stung by a deadly stingray. Blimey! I'm really sad for him, and his family. I was a big fan. Nevertheless, the way he lived so dangerously with animals, there was always the risk that it would be the end of him one day. I was almost relieved to hear that it had been a stingray that killed him, rather than just being run over by a bus or falling down the stairs. Jeez. This guy was a real icon, one of the world's true characters. As he would say, however, "it's nature's way."
CRIKEY! Steve Irwin is dead!!!

Jana Bouc / Website (4.9.06 08:25) That's weird...I had the same reaction...glad it was nature that got him. Didn't he get in trouble not long ago for messing with alligators/crocs ? while holding his little child? I didn't realize stingrays were dangerous. When I saw them when I was scubadiving I thought they were nice critters. Of course I thought that about eels and baracudas when I saw them too, and didn't realize until later they could be dangerous. |

BalancingAct / Website (4.9.06 19:38) This is the nicest post I've read today about Irwin's death. It seems that people who push the limits that other people keep themselves behind touch a nerve with those well-behaved sort. There seems to be a fair amount of "Serves him right!" being dished up in Blogopolis about his death. |

petescully / Website (5.9.06 07:06) Honestly I am genuinely upset about it. He always used to speak about his dad having taught him all he knew about having dealing with animals, about having learnt how to get wild animals to respect and not fear him, about understanding an animal's temperament and knowing the danger signs, and this allowed him to be an incredible conservationist. That his children have now been denied the same opportunity to learn from him is the real tragedy. Perhaps they will learn from this, too. I have no time for those people that say it serves him right. Thank you for the nice comments! |
